7Amazing Eye Makeup Tips You need to Know

When it comes to eye makeup, there are so many elements you need to get an impeccable final look, but there are so many things that can go wrong. Yes, we are talking about panda eyes, falling fake eyes and uneven AF eye shadows ... even though we hate to admit it, we've all been there. But do not worry, you never have to deal with these dilemmas again, as long as you follow these easy but life-changing makeup tips.

1. Prep your lid

If you fail, get ready for a makeup failure. It may sound a little dramatic, but when you prepare your lid, you'll help create a consistent melting base while ensuring your shade lasts all day and stays wrinkled. We perform this primer every day, even if we do not apply eye shadow, as it opens and illuminates your eyes. Discover our boot process in 3 steps:

Step 1: First, remove any excess oil by lightly pressing a dry sponge on your lid. This will absorb any moisture or oils on your lid.

Step 2: Apply an oil-free or matte primer to absorb any remaining residue, which could cause your eye shadow to crease. We love Urban Decay's $ 24 Primer Potion, which includes six different shades, so you can find a primer that matches your complexion.

Step 3: Finally, apply a light coat of crimping powder to create a smooth, even cloth to apply.

2. Find the right brush for the task

right brush for the eyes makeup

Any beauty lover will know the (magic) power of a good brush. Using the right tool will make your life a lot easier: it will improve pigment output and make mixing easier. You can also add definition and precision using custom brushes. In addition, if you work with different textures, such as shimmer, the appropriate brush will capture more product and apply shimmer more consistently. Here is a quick overview of the best brushes for different tasks:

Blending brush: The brush mix will help create a uniform base color and is perfect for adding a shadow in the crease, which helps create a definition.

3. Blend like a pro

Now that you have the tools, you need to perfect your mixing technique. Here are our best tips:

Pat then blend: To create a uniform base, pack the product by gently pressing the lid. Once the color is applied, mix it back and forth (think of the windshield wipers).

Blend outwards: To lift and open the eye, slide the eye shadow back towards the tail of the forehead. This will create a subtle cat eye effect even without winged lining. Never mix down, as your eyes may look a bit sloppy or tired.

Mix eyeshadows: Do not be afraid to mix the eye shadows of your brush to create a more harmonious and natural look. Just make sure you remove any excess pigment before applying it to your lid.

4. Choose a wing that flatters your eye shape

The right eyeliner can make your eyes look bigger and take years, while the bad shape can make them look smaller and even a bit drooping - it's not ideal! You want to improve your natural shape and play with dimensions to create the illusion of big eyes.

For example, if you have round eyes, you want to create the illusion of extra width and you will do so by drawing attention to the outer corners. So, start your liner 1/3 of the way into your eye, which brings your line in a long horizontal motion.

5. Layer your liner with eye shadow

Nailing a cat's eye is a skill that can take years to perfect. Therefore, once you have created a killer wing, you want to make sure it lasts. To define your liquid liner, apply a highly pigmented black shadow with a small angled brush for accuracy.

This will help fill in any missing pigment and help define your lining. If you want a smoother and smoother finish, lightly stain the liner with your brush, without removing the shape.

6. Highlight strategically

Adding a touch of highlighter will instantly open your eye and add a little shimmer. Applying a highlighter on the brow bone will elevate the forehead and applying a little on the inner corners of your eyes will help open them. Finally, add a touch to the very center of the lid to bring out your eyes.

7. Don’t forget your water line

Avoid applying a dark kohl liner to your water line (ie, the inner line of your eye), as this may make your eyes look smaller. For your lower waterline, go for a nude pencil eyeliner to open and brighten your eye. However, for your upper waterline, using a black pencil will make your eyelashes bulkier.
